Campaigning: Labour style

Great photo op', wrong place

Labour candidate for Glenrothes and Central Fife, Melanie Ward and Labour health spokeswoman Jenny Marra decided to have their photo taken outside Glenwood Health Centre in Glenrothes as part of their campaign claiming that there was an NHS staffing problem.

Ms Ward then posted the photo on Twitter with the comment:

V interesting visit to Glenwood Health Centre in #Glenrothes w @JennyMarra but clear short-staffing is a big problem

Well, nothing wrong with that you might think, apart from the use of Twitter it is the sort of campaigning that has been done for decades.

Except, the Glenwood Health Centre shown in the photo was closed last year and now lies vacant. A brand new, £5.8 million, centre was opened in April last year by then Health Secretary Alex Neil.

Readers would be forgiven for thinking that a "V interesting visit" implies more than just getting your photo taken outside.

The SNP candidate for Glenrothes and Central Fife, Peter Grant commented:

"This is a deeply embarrassing blunder from Melanie Ward and Jenny Marra – which shows Labour are more interested in playing political games than they are in our local NHS."
