Tory Party Conference Special

Yes Scotland campaigner banned

The Sunday Post is reporting that Henry Christian a life-long Conservative supporter and Yes Scotland campaigner was banned from attending the Tory Party conference in Edinburgh this weekend. Mr. Christian who has been a member of the Tory party for more than 25 years, was a branch vice-chairman in Edinburgh West and had stood for election as a Conservative candidate in the 2012 council elections was due to attend the conference until party bosses heard he supported independence.

Mr Christian was quoted as saying "I am really angry at how I’ve been treated. I’ve been a party member since the 1980s, given hundreds of hours of my time and this is how I’m repaid.

I am really disappointed, I have believed in independence since the 1980s and have been to conferences before, it’s not something I have ever hidden.
It is only one element of party policy which I disagree on, yet they still want to ban me. I am on minimum wage, I’d arranged time off work to attend, then I find out I had been rejected. It’s shocking."

Mr. Christian also said he knew of other Tory party members who supported independence.

1200 mostly empty seats.

Henry Christian certainly wasn't refused admittance due to a lack of room as these pictures show.

Conservative Party leader David Cameron and Scottish branch leader Ruth Davidson gave their keynote speeches to a dwindling number of party faithful.

The Sunday Post reported that residents of the EH3 postcode area in Edinburgh were invited to the conference in an effort to fill the seats. Like most Conservative initiatives it obviously wasn't successful. It does raise the question as to how many of the people pictured were actually delegates.
