The European Parliament Elections will be held this Thursday, May 22nd 2014.
We believe it is always important to exercise your right to vote. The European Parliament Elections will be the last national vote before the independence referendum and therefore carry even more significance than usual.
Current polling suggests support for the parties as follows:
SNP 36% (-1)
Labour 27% (-1)
Conservatives 13% (+2)
UKIP 9% (-1)
Liberal Democrats 7% (n/c)
Greens 7% (+3)
The figure in brackets shows the change since the previous opinion poll.
If the election goes the same way as the opinion poll suggests the LibDems would lose their current MEP and the SNP would increase from two to three MEPs, Labour and Conservatives would stay the same at two and one respectively.
However, there is always the possibility that UKIP could marginally increase their share of the vote and secure a Scottish MEP. The unionist dominated media would undoubtedly portray that as a setback for Scottish independence.
We will keep our readers informed of the election results as soon as we know them.
